Below is a list of activities and short trips, enough ideas to consider for a morning or afternoon of fun. Feel free to leave suggestions using the comment field below.

FUN and PLAY

  • Jolly Roger Theme Park
    Playground, bouncing castles, small restaurant/ bar - relax with a drink while your children play. Location: Next to Mamba Village Langata North Road, Karen Estate
  • Amani ya Juu (website)
    Playground for the youngest, small restaurant/ bar - relax with a drink, snack or light lunch in the quiet garden while your children play. Nice souvenirs/ small presents for sale in the Amani ya juu shop. Location: Junction Riverside Drive/ Kileleshwa ring road, next to Prime Bank, Kileleshwa Estate
  • Splash Water World
    Swimming pool. Location: Langata Road, next to Carnivore Restaurant

ANIMALS

  • Animal Farm Village
    Welcoming everybody for affordable horse ride, picnic, farm animals, chillout in samburu manyatta and a bit of educational program all about horses, cows, goats and sheep, chickens,guinea fawls, quails and other animals. Location: Koitobos Road, close to Giraffe Centre, Karen/ Langata Estate
  • Safari Walk (website)

  • Animal Orphanage (website)
    Small zoo with safari animal orphans in fenced areas. Location: Next to main entrance of Nairobi National Park, Langata Road, Karen/ Langata Estate
  • Giraffe Centre
    Touch and feed giraffes from a two meter high platform - other animals: amongst others tortoises, warthogs. Small bar/restaurant on-site. Location: Nyumbi Road, Karen/ Langata Estate
  • Elephant Orphanage - David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (website)
    See, and touch the playful elephant orphans and hear about their stories and successes told by their caretakers, daily from 11am-noon. Location: Side entrance of Nairobi National Park, Magadi Road, past Karen/ Bomas of Kenya
  • Mamba Village (website)
    Crocodiles, ostriches, giraffes in a serene green environment. Accommodation/ camping also available. Location: Langata North Road, Karen C/ Kuwinda Estate

ART and CULTURE

  • Nairobi Art Centre - "ArtyParty"(website)
    The centre is organizing art workshops for kids in February - check out their website. Location: Opposite Lavington Green shopping centre, James Gichuru Road, Lavington Estate
  • Kazuri Beads and Pottery Centre (website)
    Witness how Kazuri’s famous beads are produced and made into the characteristic colourful jewellery available in several branches around town and around the world. Location: Mbagathi Ridge, off Forest Lane, off Karen Road, close to Karen Blixen museum, Karen/ Langata Estate
  • Kitengela Glass (website)
    Visit the workshop where for many years already glass is recycled and made into beautiful ornamental sculptures, home ware and jewellery. Location: Magadi Road, Opposite Nairobi National Park, just outside Nairobi. Check for a map on their website, or ask directions in one of the Kitengela glass shops (The Junction – Lavington Estate,  Adams Arcade – Ngong Road, Le Rustique restaurant – Westlands)
  • Nairobi National Museum (website)
    Recently renovated and expanded museum with Kenyan history, nature, culture and art. Location: Next to Museum Hill roundabout, Museum Hill, Westlands Estate
